Review on the Rhône river, the best place for a sunny afternoon in Geneva
To all the Swiss wanderers out there or frustrated tourists, do not despair : good weather is expected this week, making it possible to take a last dip into the lake! If you are looking for a unique ( and completely free! ) experience, head down the “Lac Leman”, towards the Rhône river. As you walk past “la cité du temps” and “L’usine”, a cultural center mainly known as a drum&bass and techno club ( check out their events by clicking HERE ), you just keep on walking by the lake. When you see a few people jumping off a bridge, followed by a mass of young locals chilling by the water, you’ll know that’s the spot.
As you approach, you’ll be able to hear different kinds of music, from people jamming with their own instrument to the buzzing noise of speakers playing reggae, hip hop or electronic music. Resting on their most colorful hammock with a beer in hand, the groups of young locals have found their place to be in Geneva.
What makes this part of the lake so special? The water current.
If you dive in near the bridge (where a few rebels jump off from since it is technically forbidden to do so), you will gently be taken for a 10/15 minutes ride with the current before having to get out of the water (even the rebels respect that since the river goes all the way to France!).
As you get out, you can go and refresh yourself at the bar “à la pointe” or have some snacks (best empanadas I’ve ever tasted!!)
Now go enjoy the last days of sunshine before you start complaining about the cold!!
To find this spot, head towards “la Jonction” or check out the map on Google HERE.
